Second, you need to determine what kind of person you are going to be in this life. Your vision is an issue of character and integrity. I don’t know any better description of what Jesus was like in character than in Galatians 5 where Paul writes about the fruit of what God’s power does in us as He grows us. Our character is formed by the accumulation of good habits and honestly, by the accumulation of bad habits if we are not careful. If you have a habit of being kind to people, people will look at you and say you are a kind person. And God is developing those good habits in us to develop good character.
One of the best examples of character and integrity is found in the life of Joseph, you know the guy with the coat of many colors in Genesis chapters 37-50. Joseph didn’t have any great books on vision by Andy Stanley, George Barna, Rick Warren or other insightful leaders. If he did, he probably wouldn’t have read them. He was too busy being about his the business of serving God. He may not have been able to give a definition of vision in the way that we define vision in our churches and businesses today. He knew what vision was and he knew the One that gives vision to those who are called and are obedient to that call. Joseph knew how to carry out the vision of God because he knew God personally and was a man of integrity and faith.
You cannot carry out God’s vision if your life is not pure. Don’t even attempt to try to take the first step, for you will be very disappointed. A life that carries around un-confessed sin, is the most cluttered life of any I could address. I cannot emphasize this enough. God uses people whose lives are clean. Their hearts are clean. Their minds are clean. Their mouths are clean. Living a double standard is not an option for those who are serious about their relationship with God. It’s not about being perfect because that is impossible and will frustrate you senseless.
