Imagination can get us to the finish line

I see things… not necessarily as they are today, but as they can become.

What we imagine, visualize, and see in our mind’s eye sooner or later can materialize.
Once, I heard it put this way, “If you think you can, you will awaken within yourself the power that can.” You receive what you see yourself receiving. For whatever your attention is concentrated on, over and over, it tends to realize.

Scripture reminds us, “It is done unto you as you believe.” – Matthew 9:29

What is it that you want with all of your heart?
Is there a goal fixed in your mind?
Do you believe it can come to pass?

Create a mental picture of your life the way you desire it to be. Plant those good dreams in your mind. Imagine your goals vividly, choosing a mind-set of joyful expectation, thinking higher thoughts, and affirming your good intentions. Keep big dreams in front of you. Foresee achievements. Then nurture them, work steadily toward your goals, continue to visualize success, and do not let stumbling blocks stop you and your dreams will become reality.

You may say, “I have major mountains of obstacles in my path.” But see yourself climbing over them. Remember, thinking that you can’t prevail over challenges will clutter your vision, cripple your energy, and steal the victory, beforehand, from your undertakings.

Recently, my middle daughter came home from school upset. Seeing her somber eyes, that are usually so full of joy, I immediately knew something was bothering her.

“What is the matter, honey” I asked.

Taking off her jacket, she said, “Mom, in gym class, I didn’t run the one mile in 12 minutes.” Consoling her I replied, “Don’t worry; just do your best and try again next time.”

Two days later, my curly-haired daughter stepped off of the school bus exclaiming, “Mom, I tried, but I did not run fast enough to even get the fitness bead!”

I nodded with understanding, thinking to myself that this is a good opportunity to explain to her an important life lesson. “Honey, I am going to tell you a secret on how to win that race.”

Her big blue eyes were alive with curiosity, “How Ma Ma? Tell me.”
We walked into the house, sat together at the end of the sofa and I described, “Before you start running, picture in your mind something that you really want is waiting for you at the finish line.”

My daughter’s mind wondered, “You mean a toy, or a hamster, or another kitten?”
I replied, “Visualize what you would like, and then say a prayer and ask God to help you run to victory.”

The next day, she went to school and later that afternoon, I met her at the bus stop. Hopping off the bus, she was jovial, as she proudly carried with her the fitness bead.

“So,” I eagerly asked, “Did my little secret work?”
Responding with an outpouring of enthusiasm, she answered, “Yes, Mom, it did!”

She went on to tell how she imagined a white horse was running beside her and she had to keep up with it. And if she crossed the finish line the horse would be hers!

Her imagination allowed her to run faster and faster, without stopping to finish the race.
In the same way, no matter what the situation looks like, we must see ourselves reaching our goals, going farther, advancing higher, for our life is going to follow that vision. Let’s look toward the prize and, “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” (Hebrews 12:1) because God has destined us to win.

God has equipped you with special blessings. There is something you have that this world needs. Envision it, have faith in it, and wholeheartedly pursue it. Call on God….put Him first…He can help to bring your dreams to completion.

I like what Bobby Kennedy once said, “Some people see things as they are and ask, why? I see things that never were and ask, why not?”
So, see things as they can be… and reach for them!
