Great things come from small beginnings when God is in them. But you’ve got to start with a dream. If you’re going to be involved in ministry, if you’re going to be a leader, you’ve got to be a dreamer. For many people, their only goal in life is just to make it through the day. What’s your dream? To get home at night. Chuck Swindoll ask a college student one time, “Where are you headed?” The student said, “To lunch.” For a lot of people, that’s their goal in life. I want to give you some steps on how to dream bigger than you’ve ever dreamed before
1. Establish some priorities.
You’re going to have to think through your dream in a logical order. The question you want to ask is “What is my target?” You can’t chase two rabbits at the same time. You need to focus on doing the right things.
2. Evaluate the cost.
This is what’s called a calculated risk. Proverbs 20:25 IT IS A TRAP FOR A MAN TO DEDICATE SOMETHING RASHLY AND ONLY LATER TO CONSIDER HIS VOWS” You need to ask yourself three questions when you’re planning out a dream:
3. Plan for problems.
You need to plan in advance for problems. This is the Principle of Preparation.Never ignore a problem because a problem will never ignore you. It’s just going to hang around. Ask yourself “What can go wrong with this dream? And “What will happen if it does?” That’s not being pessimistic, that’s just being
sensible.
4. Be willing to risk. Face your fears.
The reason why people aren’t willing to risk is they aren’t willing to face their fears. We hate to admit it when we’re afraid. We like to pretend. God says to go ahead and admit it. Fear is not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of humanity. You must be willing to risk. “BUT WHOEVER TRUSTS IN THE LORD IS KEPT SAFE..” That’s the secret. When you know the dream is from God, it gives you confidence.
5. Do it now.
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.” There comes a point of decision where you’ve got to stop talking and start acting. You’ve got to begin. Once you’ve decided it’s worth the risk, you take off. You can’t get to second base without leaving first. There’s got to come a point in your life when you say, “God’s called me to do this. I’m going for it.”
What are you dreaming today that will become reality in the future?
