We live in a world where everyone wants to be safe. Nothing wrong with that, it sure seems logical to me. The biggest danger we have, is encountering God. Too often, Christians merely have a “friendly relationship” with God (which is fine – we are called friends of God), but we also need a healthy fear of the Lord, an awe of the holy, a wonder at the person of Jesus. When we truly encounter God, everything we call normal is redefined and we are nearly powerless to do anything but seek his kingdom. There are too many churches and Christians out there that like playing it safe. They won’t want to rock the boat, are never controversial, want to keep everyone happy and remain cautious. A safe church says, “Let’s not change things. We can’t do that, what would people think? That music is too loud. All of those kids are going to ruin our building.” Want more? I think you get the idea.

The gospel is dangerous which makes those who carry and safeguard the message of Christ dangerous. In an Unstoppable Force, Erwin McManus writes,“When we believe that God’s purpose intention or promise is that we will be safe from harm, we are utterly disconnected from the movement and power of God. . . the truth of the matter is that the center of God’s will is not a safe place but the most dangerous place in the world! God fears nothing and no one! God moves with intentionality and power. To live outside of God’s will puts us in danger; to live in his will makes us dangerous.”

I emphasized that last sentence in hopes that it will grab your attention and your heart. God is seeking people to live dangerous lives for Him. We cannot afford to live soft, safe, and comfortable lives for Christ anymore. Not when our brothers and sisters in Christ are dying around the world for their faith. Not when our family, friends, and neighbors are in danger of a Christ-less eternity.

Dangerous faith is the kind of faith that grabs hold of the this statement by Jesus; “Anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” Dangerous faith is the kind that believes God can do anything….and we can do anything with Him! I want that kind of faith.
