This is where your calling to write can be hard. It is not easy to get out of bed everyday knowing you have to write. Knowing that this is your passion will give you motivation and sense of purpose to write. After all, that is the question of the ages – “What is my purpose?” Knowing your purpose in writing is fulfilling yet can be frightening as well. That is why it necessary to see what you are doing as a calling. You are writing to help make someone’s life better spiritually, financially, emotionally, relationally, and eternally. While I write, my call is not to be a writer, but to be a missionary writer. Basically I am a missionary that writes!
First, there is enough time in the day to do everything you need to do
– but it won’t be done without sacrifice and unbalance – that is if you really want to change the world. It would require discipline, not just meandering through life. Most of us want to change the world, we just want to do it in an easy or organized one two three sort of way – no one ever did that – not even Bible heroes. You are going to set a schedule to writing and stick with it. Many writers find that early in the morning is best when their mind is fresh and they have had a good night sleep. Other will tell you late at night is the preferred time of day. You have to find what works for you and stick with it.
Second, give time to what really matters
Your family really matters – so make sure you are attending the needs of your family. Spend time with your wife and have a weekly date night. If you have children, take time to talk with them and play with them and snuggle with them. Why is this so important? A healthy life makes for healthy writing. You will be able to focus on your family which allows you to focus on your writing.
Third, write every day
You are probably thinking, “How in the world is that possible?” If you are going to be a writer, then you have to think and act like a writer. A writer writes every day. Your writing could be for your blog. If you don’t have a blog, you should be kicked in the seat of your pants. Your writing could be on the eBook or the print book you are working on, or I could be for an article as a guest blogger. Just write every day.
[callout]You have within you, if you will, a calling to write. You will either choose to risk becoming a missionary writer or not. Why write? There are literally millions of writers out there producing everything from blogs, to eBooks, printed books, newsletters, and the list goes on. Starting a writing career, either part-time or full-time, results in sharing stories and information that inspire people. Writers can’t shake the need to write. It is unexplainable. It is in them and must be released from the heart and mind to the pen and paper, or in our generation to the keyboard and laser printer.[/callout]
