Ben Franklin said, “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time for it is the stuff that life is made of.”
Time is a gift from God.
For many of us we treat time more as a commodity than a gift. Time is a gift. It is something to be treasured. It is something to be used for God’s glory. It is something to be enjoyed. The truth is every second of life that I have, ever second of life that every one of us has is a gift, given to us by God.
Here are three definitions of time management. See which one best fits maybe the way you’ve been managing your time.
Everybody gets the gift of time. The question is how do you use those gifts.
I’ve got to have the right plan, the right schedule. Psalm 90:12 talks about this, “Teach us to make the most of our time so we may grow in wisdom.”
So The Key Decision In Our Daily Schedule And Plan According To God Is I Will Rest.
The surprise is, the most important thing in our schedule is often what you don’t do. God says “Take a whole day a week and don’t do at all. Just be with Me. Rest in Me.” I like what the Bible says about our daily rest. He’s made us to need daily rest as well as take a day a week of rest.
Psalm 127:2 “It’s useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones”
The right way of looking at things with the right plan. There is a balance of how He works things. The key decision here is I will balance my life.
A warning for all of us in this one, if you’re going to balance your life with rest you’re going to have to admit something about yourself. You have to admit that there’s a love/hate relationship that most of us have with busyness. We say on the one hand, I hate being so busy. It’s terrible being so busy.” We talk about it, we complain about it. But there’s a part of us that loves busyness. Because busyness makes us feel important. Important people are busy people. Busy people are important people. The truth is, you’re important to God no matter if you’re busy or not.
Some of you are so disciplined about how every minute has to work. You’re uptight all day long. Every single second has to work because you’ve got to get the most out of every day. Some of you are so flexible you’re a slave to other people’s schedule. There are moments in your life when you need to say “No. I can’t do that because this is what I’m supposed to be doing today.” There’s a balance between the two.
