The Apple TextEdit App Icon - Crazy Ones

It is no secret that I am a Apple enthusiast.  I thought about labeling myself as an Apple evangelist, but I don't go out and preach Mac to the masses. Apple has always been a company that focuses on creativity, which is not one of my stronger points, although I do see myself as a visionary thinker and leader. In Apple's cadre of applications that comes installed on a Mac is the program TextEdit.  Text Edit is a simple text editor that can be used to type up basic notes and letters. I never paid much attention to the launch icon for this app, but noticed that there is writing on the icon, a note pad with a pen laid on top of the pad. The content of the writing is too small to be seen with the naked eye. I decided to find out what was written on the icon and the graphic above is my finding, a larger shot of the icon.

This is the copy from a commercial that Apple aired during the final episode of Seinfield and it was the only time it ever aired. I love the copy! You can be a "crazy one" that changes things. The copy describes what it means to be one of the "crazy ones, misfits, rebels and troublemakers." Read on to find out my thoughts about the content of this icon.

They see things differently

Erik Weihenmayer is a phenomenal athlete who loves to skydive, snow ski and climb mountains. Mountain climbing is his specialty. As a matter of fact, he is on track to be one of the youngest to climb all of the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each of the continents. In 1995 he scaled Mt. McKinley, in 1996 El Capitan, in 1998 Mt Kilamanjaro. In 1999 he climbed Argentina’s Aconcauga. On May 25, 2001 he reached the summit of Mount Everest, a peak that 90% of those who begin to climb never finish. Since 1953, 165 people have died trying to climb Everest, but Erik made it. Now that is an extremely significant feat, but you don’t know the half of it. Weihenmayer suffers from a degenerative eye disease, and when he was 13 he became totally blind. All of his climbs have been without the benefit of his eyesight. Weihenmayer is a blind mountain-climber! [callout]How can someone who is blind see things differently? It has nothing to do with eyesight, but everything to do with drive, perseverance, and will![tweetherder][/tweetherder][/callout]

They are not fond of rules

Breaking the rules is basically doing what other people are afraid to do in order to be successful or purposeful.[tweetherder][/tweetherder] While rules at times are a necessity, rules are constraining and keep one from experiencing life out side the status quo. To be successful or purposeful does not mean you are constantly breaking the rules, it may mean you work within the rules that exist, while creating new rules that allows for movement and progress to happen.

They have no respect for the status quo

I once heard that the status quo meant "the mess we're in." While a creative person or visionary would agree with that definition, Webster's states that it means, "the existing state of affairs." The problem with the status quo  is that it never changes and people get comfortable living there. It drives some of us crazy, hence -"Crazy Ones!"

I want to be a "Crazy One" that God will use to change the spiritual landscape of our country and our world. How about you?
