TerriThis morning a federal judge refused to order Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube re-inserted, thus continuing her death by starvation. As I wrote about this topic several weeks ago, I basically equated what is happening with Terri as euthanasia.  What is happening at this very moment is that Terri is being "put to death." This type of death is not free of pain as some misguided officials have reported.  I have to communicate that I am not a medical professional, but I have read some interesting articles from those who are regarding this type of death.  What happens when someone is deprived of water and food is that they literally dry out. Her organs will begin to fail and possibly she will die of heart failure. It will not be a peaceful, uneventful death.

Regardless what you think about the Terri Schiavo case, death by starvation is a cruel punishment for anyone to go through.  Have we forgotten the images of the Holocaust victims who were walking skeletons? Have we erased from our minds images from Africa when there are famines and children can’t raise their heads or move their limbs because the lack of energy from nutrition? Have we become a society of convenience when it comes to life? Terri’s father Bob Schindler said this about his daughter’s starvation, "Death by starvation is very slow, and
extremely painful. As you must know, it is against the law to
deliberately starve an animal to death. There are members of the
Florida court who would not treat a dog the way they plan to treat my
daughter."

This is not a philosophical argument as many want to disguise it as.  Let there be no mistake, this is a moral problem.  The sanctity of human life sways in the balance in America and around the world and human secularists are leading the way to make life a commodity.  Our congress and President have had the courage to quickly pass a bill that would stop Terri’s death, but a judge who thinks he knows best has refused to comply.  Go to http://www.terrisfight.net/  for more information.

Also, I encourage you to read this article from a doctor close to Terri’s case: http://www.sbc.net/redirect.asp?url=http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?id=20400

Let your prayer today be that God be glorified through Terri’s life and her current situation.
