What I'm Building

I've always enjoyed building things. Sometimes that means developing a new idea, designing software, or even building a house. Other times, it means picking up a carving tool and seeing what might be hiding inside a piece of wood.

Some projects become businesses. Others are simply things I enjoy doing. All of them reflect my curiosity, creativity, and desire to make something worthwhile.

Here's a look at a few things I'm working on.

BootBuilt

I've always believed that starting a business shouldn't require knowing all the answers before you begin.

BootBuilt is a project I'm developing to help people take an idea and work through the practical steps of starting a business. From understanding requirements to figuring out what needs to happen next, the goal is to make a complicated process a little easier to navigate.

It's still being built, and that's part of the fun. I'm learning, experimenting, and working through the challenges of turning an idea into something useful.

Our New Home

Julie and I are working toward building our new home on a little over six acres in Northeast Ohio. It's a project that combines a lot of things I enjoy: planning, designing, figuring things out, and occasionally wondering what I've gotten myself into.

We're planning a single-story home with an inviting porch, plenty of room for family gatherings, and a workshop where I can spend time woodcarving and making things. I'm looking forward to being involved in the construction and finishing much of the interior myself.

There's something special about building a place where new memories will be made. And while the process will undoubtedly bring a few surprises, I'm looking forward to the adventure.

Woodcarving

I discovered woodcarving after attending one of Ray Kinman's workshops, and I've been hooked ever since. There's something satisfying about starting with a plain piece of wood and slowly discovering what it can become.

I enjoy the entire process, from the original design to the final details. Some pieces are gifts for people I love. Others are custom projects that tell someone else's story. Every carving brings its own challenges, and I'm still learning something new with each one.

I've started sharing my carvings, the stories behind them, and a little of what I'm learning along the way at CarvingHack.com.

What I'm Writing Next

Finishing one book has a way of getting me thinking about the next one. I enjoy writing because it gives me a chance to revisit experiences, wrestle with ideas, and hopefully share something useful along the way.

One project I'm working on is Yes, But How?,  a fresh look at a book I wrote years ago called *Uncluttered*. It's about recognizing the things that get in the way of living the life God has called us to live, and more importantly, figuring out what to do about them.

I'm also collecting stories and ideas for future books. Some may eventually find their way onto a printed page. Others might remain scribbles in a notebook for a while. Either way, I enjoy the process of seeing where an idea leads.
