The Christian Band Philips, Craig and Dean started off the day singing their hit song, You Grace Is Amazing to set the tone for the conference.
Rick Warren focused on Personal Renewal from 2 Corinthians 4. Rick stated that there are seven secrets of staying power as seen in the life of Paul.
1. Learn to enjoy the grace of God.
Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 Cor. 4:1
– We are a trophy of Grace
a) you don't have to prove yourself
b) don't wallow in your failures
Never confuse prominence and significance. As pastors we need to enjoy the grace of God, not just preach it.
2. Be authentic
Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
2 Cor 4:2
– Be yourself. Don't pretend to be something you are not.
– You have to be honest for God to use you.
– When you love people they will know it
3. Remember, It's Not About You
You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. 2 Cor 4:5
– When you forget this you get bitter or resentful
– If you are doing ministry for yourself, you will not last
– Why Am I doing what I am doing?
The why is "for Jesus' sake" verses 5 &11
Most of the attacks against you are from jealousy
– ignore them. you will never be able to please. Who are you trying to impress?
4. Accept your human limitations
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 2 Cor 4:7
– You cannot fix everyone’s problems
– God often puts his greatest gifts in the weakest individuals so his glory will shine through
5. Do everything out of love
All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory. 2 Cor 4:15
Where do I start? How about with your wife? Listen to your wife!
Love is spelled T.I.M.E
6. Make Time For Daily Renewal
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 2 Cor 4:16
– Divert daily, withdraw weekly, abandon annually
– Have a plan and a partner
– Practice creative loafing
– Find 4 or 5 other pastors and form a pastors group to meet once
a month for six months
7. Live in Light of Eterninty
For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. 2 Cor 4:17-18
