One of the most popular videos on YouTube.com is Charlie the Unicorn. What? Could it be that you have never heard or viewed this famous video of how a unicorn falls to peer pressure?
Then, friend you must click the photo of Charlie and be prepared for one of the greatest cinematic pieces of the ages ( have your speakers turned up). Alright, it is not that good. It is kind of like the movie Napoleon Dynamite, you either love it or hate. Me, I love Charlie while my wife hates the video. There is no dirty language or innuendos, but the ending is a thriller!
What is the spiritual side of this video? It took me several months of watching this thing to finally see the message. Giving into peer pressure or perhaps "Be sure your sins will find you out." Actually, the only meaning I have picked out of this video is don’t let your friends pressure you into something you don’t want to do. There are too many people pleasers out there. When we have a carrot (new job, more money, "better relationships", or bigger-fancier-cooler) dangled out in front of us, the temptation is to jump at the carrot. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.
It is not a sin to be tempted, but when we give into the temptation, the problems begin. No one gets married thinking, "I will commit adultery against my wife or husband." No one has any intentions of becoming a work-a-holic when they enter the workforce, but many succumb to the pressure to be successful and wealthy. Nothing wrong with being successful or wealthy, but they can become someone’s god, therein lies the problem. When we put anything else before God, we fall short and sin happens.
Watch this quirky video and laugh or shake your head and wonder why. Remember, when you are pressured to be someone you are not – don’t go to Candy Mountain!
