I started rebuilding this website yesterday.

That probably doesn’t sound particularly profound.

The old site had been sitting here for years. Some of the pictures were missing. A few links needed attention. There were articles I had almost forgotten I had written.

But the harder part wasn’t fixing the website.

It was figuring out what to put on it.

For a long time, this site mostly reflected one part of my life—leadership, church planting, ministry and coaching. Those things are still part of me. But they aren’t the whole story anymore.

These days I’m writing books. I’m building a house. I’m working on a couple of business ideas. I still think a lot about leadership and churches. I carve wood. I spend time with my grandkids. I occasionally make something that works exactly the way I intended on the first try.

Occasionally.

And somewhere along the way I realized there was a thread running through most of it.

I like building things.

Businesses. Churches. Teams. Books. Things out of wood. People, when they’ll let me.

Not because everything needs to become bigger.

I think I just like taking something that isn’t there yet and helping it become something.

Maybe that’s what this next version of this website is really about.

Not presenting myself as one thing.

Just opening the notebook again and sharing what I’m building, what I’m learning, what worked—and occasionally what I figured out the hard way.

There’s plenty of that.

So consider this the first page of the new notebook.
