This is not a spiritual post as such, but if you are from Tennessee or follow the Lady Vols basketball program it can be a "spiritual experience", if you know what I mean. Tennessee has always been and probably always will be a football school. Don’t think that Tennessee is just a football school. There have been highs in other athletic programs at the school. For example, we have had national championships in track, women’s basketball, and something else, I just can’t think of what. If you
happen to be a Vol fan let me of any championship I left off. The closest that the men’s basketball program has gotten to extreme success in my eyes, were the days of Bernard King and Ernie Grunfield. That’s for another day though.
Last night the Tennessee Lady Vols beat the ladies from Rutgers to advance to the NCAA Women Final Four. This year, thankfully, Tennessee’s nemesis Connecticut did not advance to the Final Four. The coach for Connecticut, Gino whatever his name is, gets on my nerves and is too cocky for this rednecks taste. The Lady Vols don’t seem to have a superstar as they have in years past, but seem to be a solid group of ladies who play together as a team. That is what it takes to win championships and the men’s program can learn a lesson from Pat Summit in this area. Their only obstacle to winning the championship will be Michigan State. Both the men’s and women’s teams from Michigan State are in the Final Four and they will have incentive to sweep both titles as Connecticut did last year. By the way, my father in law is a graduate from MSU, but he care less about the gam.
I want to say hello to Holly Warlick, the Lady Vols Assistant Coach and former neighbor (she lived across the street from us in Knoxville). Good luck on the possibility of the head coaching position at Indiana or Clemson. If I were you, I would stay in Knoxville.
