The panel on discipleship included Mark Driscoll, Steve Stroop, Lee McFarland, Nelson Searcy, Mark Batterson adnd Stovall Weems.

Driscoll stated that the Culmination of Discipleship rested in three things:

  1. Desire – Make sure that people are regenerated before you start trying to disciple them. Mark also stated  that we need to pull out of people their deepest desire. Out of that desire will grow disciples.
  2. Truth – people must be taught the truth and know the truth to live for the truth.
  3. Relationships – make your small groups based on the Sunday sermon.

Steve Stroop of LakePointe Church
What can we do to change the culture of the church in regards to discipling kids and teenagers.  He shared that at LakePointe they are teaching their parents that it is their responsibility to disciple their kids, not the church's responsibility. Every 120 days they are asking their people for feedback on how they are doing in their marriages, raising their kids.  The family is the most important small group!!

Nelson shared that as a new church not to start small groups too early. They focused on on the weekend service and small groups after they had been going for awhile.

Nelson shared an interesting thought that discipleship happens the first time a newcomer walks into your church.  Encourage and challenge people to get in a small group, go through the CLASS system, and get involved in NEXT steps (everything has a next step), basically he was sharing that people need to get involved as quickly as possible.
