I thought it is about time that I tackle the issue of Dan Brown’s blockbuster novel, The Da Vinci Code. I am sure that I am probably the first person to write something about this novel on a weblog!
Actually, I wasn’t going to breach this subject at all, but after reading the book and seeing the movie this past weekend I feel compelled to share some thoughts. The book was a great thriller and mystery novel that pretty much kept my attention while I felt the movie was just the opposite. Sorry Opie, this was a slow cinema version of the novel.
I will probably take the next couple of days and share regarding the discrepancies of the so-called facts that Brown states in his novel. The amazing thing to me regarding this literary phenomenon is how people are guiilble enough to believe the lies that Brown pawns off as facts. What’s the problem here? Is it that people are guillible or just too plain lazy to do some research on their on to find out the real truth? No wonder humanism is effective, if someone sells lots of books, then thier musings must be fact and should not be questioned.
Yesterday at our church we began a series of teachings regarding the validity of the claims that Brown makes in his novel. To break the ice on the subject I started out the teaching by saying, “The facts that I have found to be true in The Da Vinci Code are Paris is in France, London is in England, and the Louvre is in Paris.” When I made that comment, someone got up and walked out of the service. My guess is because they caught that the teaching was not going to defend Brown’s assumptions regarding Jesus, the church, and the gospels.
