This is an excerpt from a book I am writing on vision.

When we neglect the necessity of prayer in our lives, spiritual clutter will continue to pile up trapping us under it’s weight and burden. Spiritual prog- ress is made on our knees. Prayer fuels spiritual growth and infuses God’s people with the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that unless we abide in Him, we can do nothing. Any strategy for vision should include prayer: individual and corporate, specific and persistent.

Insight
Pray for insight and information about the vision that you sense God leading you to lead the charge for. Do not neglect to pray for neighborhoods, people groups, and specific in- dividuals that will be touched by the vision you are going to carry out. Seek to discover those who might be part of a disciple-making group. James wrote, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God …and it will be given to him” (James 1:5).

Spiritual Growth
Your vision praying should be for the spiritual growth and maturity of yourself and others. Ask God to grant them “ac- cording to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man … and to know the Messiah’s love that surpasses knowledge, … filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:16,19).

Together
By all means, pray together with others about the vision you have. Jesus promised, “I assure you: If two of you agree on earth about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there among them” (Matthew18:19-20).
Praying together is also important because vision re- quires that spiritual disciplines be lived out in clear view of others. Observation crystallizes information. The disciples learned to pray with authenticity and power by observing Jesus.

Prayer Partners
Employ prayer partners to aid your work in making vision a reality. Enlist a company of intercessors to pray for you and the vision. The number could vary from 12 to 100 or more.
As you pray, hold fast to our Lord’s promise: “And if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” (Matthew 21:22).

Feedback Groups for Vision
Not only is vision done best by a person rather than a pro- gram, but ideally, it is also a group activity. Small gatherings of people connected for the purpose of vision casting can provide fertile soil for moving the vision forward. They can be a positive environment for affirmation, accountability, nurture, and discovery. They can also accelerate the vision process.
