I am the official time keeper for the Fairport High School basketball games. I get to work the clock at the ball games once or twice a week. This week as I began to prepare, I began thinking about how I am able to control the time literally with the flick of a switch. I am able to start time and stop time. I have the ability to control time in the frame of a certain time period (quarters in a basketball game). There have been times when a game is so intense that I forget to start the clock for a couple of seconds – then I have messed up time!
One thing I have noticed in my life and the lives of others is that it seemes that we do not have enough time. We are constantly on the run. We eat fast food, have fast meetings, and take quick power naps. Why is it we feel that we do not have enough time? First you need to ask yourself, "how am I spending mine time?" In the book of Psalms we read, “Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 NLT
How does God teach us to make the most of our time?
Teaches us to prioritize our lives (Mark 12:30-31)
Teaches us about serving (Philippians 2:3)
If you haven’t done so, take time to prioritize your life. If you are a believer the first line on your priority list is a non-negotiable – Spend time each day with God. The second priority item might be to serve others. You can serve your family, your fellow employees, your neighbirs, and just about anyone you come in contact with. We can live for the here and now or, we can live for eternity. “God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT
Can I spend my time more wisely? Yes we can.
“So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do.” Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT
